Photography Workshop

Enjoy a day of creativity within the Hampshire Countryside, at the beautiful Chawton House with exclusive access to the house and gardens!
Well-known photographer, Claire Lewis will guide and support you, to take your photography to the next level. Don’t worry about what type of camera you have, it’s all about enjoying the craft of capturing images. The day will end with a light lunch with discussion in more detail about your photography skills and areas for improvement. No need to worry about the weather – if it rains, as the focus will turn to the indoor beauty of the amazing house! All levels are invited to join, tasks will be set for each level, so from beginner to advanced there will be something for all.

West Meon Music Festival

Church of St John the Evangelist, Church Lane, West Meon, GU32 1NL

A weekend of five chamber concerts by the Primrose Piano Quartet and guests. Presenting some of the greatest chamber music with guest violinist Jenny Sacha and harpist Gabriella Jones. Exciting new features include public masterclasses, a film show on Sunday and renowned actor Nicholas Jones for an evening of music & melodrama. The festival opens on Friday 13 September with a candlelit concert of classical favourites performed by various members of the Primrose Piano Quartet.

Dog Show

Gilbert White’s House, The Wakes, High Street, Selborne, Hampshire GU34 3JH

Something for pooches and pooch lovers! … the Gilbert White annual fun dog show. With novelty classes, fun classes, obstacle courses and fastest recall.
A BBQ and refreshments will be available for the human companions, plus a range of stalls. (Free Entry)
Proceeds will be split between Many Tears Animal Rescue and the Gilbert White & The Oates Collection.

Alton Herald Classic Car Show

Alton Town Centre, GU34 1HD

For all you car lovers, the popular annual Alton Herald Classic Car Show returns to Alton’s town centre! Hundreds of classic, vintage, American and military vehicles will line the High Street, Market Street, Cross & Pillory Lane and the Market Square! Live entertainment will be on offer in the Market Square and specialty market and craft stalls in the High Street.

Haslemere Food Festival

Haslemere Food Festival is a culinary celebration of local food and drink from Surrey, Sussx and Hampshire. With a fantastic mix of food and drink stall holders, plus live entertainment and activities for children, this has become an event not to miss! Over the course of the day there will be live food preparation demonstrations and tastings. Now in its 14th year and with well over 2000 visitors, the festival is a real gourmet treat to look forward to!

Petersfield Oktoberfest

As per the awesome 2018 event, expect the full Oktoberfest atmosphere, lots of beer, bench tables, dressing up, steins, sausages, table service and general oompah! All the ingredients to make for a very special Oktoberfest style party! For one day only, Petersfield Festival Hall will be transformed into an Oktoberfest beer hall with traditional theming, authentic Oktoberfest dress and one of the UK's best oompah bands providing the musical entertainment … as well as the traditional tastes of Oktoberfest with great German beer!

Romans In Residence

Roman re-enactment group, the Butser IX Roman Legion will be in residence in the Roman Villa with fighting and marching demonstrations, archery, Roman cooking, crafts, games and more. There will be plenty of opportunities to get hands on with the past and discover what life would have been like in Roman Britain.

Steam Fairground at Night

Hollycombe Steam, Iron Hill, Liphook, GU30 7LP

As darkness falls, step back in time into the magical world of how the Victorians and Edwardians used steam as an instrument of work and play featuring a number of very popular sideshows of the period. With steam driven rides such as the Razzle Dazzle (considered to be the world’s first ‘white knuckle’ ride), the Gallopers, Swingboats plus the magnificent Big Wheel. A trip to Hollycombe in the dark offers a blend of history and excitement! Also, check out the Bioscope – a pre-cursor to the modern cinema – which first brought film to the public and go crazy in the original Hall of Mirrors!

Farmers Market and Craft Market

A double market event in Alton.
Enjoy the great taste of Hampshire, savour the delights of truly local food reared, grown, baked, caught and brewed in Hampshire. Home reared meats including buffalo and game, eggs, cheese, milk, ice cream, wine, beer, apple juice, bread, cakes, bakes, pickles, chutney's, preserves, fruits and vegetables, wool & coppice goods. Plus a broad choice of high quality locally crafted products on offer from all around the district, hosted by Alton Lions Club.

Firewalk Festival

Queens Head Public House, Sheet, GU32 2AH

Organised by Fitzroy, the national charity who support people with learning difficulties and autism, the event will consist of self-nominated people (!) walking over hot coals followed by a festival-style evening with live music, food and games. If you’re not sure if you want to take on the challenge just come to cheer on the brave 'soles'. (Homes EA are simply publicising this crazy event – not recommending that you should do it!)

Autum Steam Gala

Watercress Line Alresford Railway Station, SO24 9JG

This 'steam' packed 3 day event is a chance to see and ride behind the home-fleet locomotives. It will be one of the last chances to see 9F 92212 (their youngest steam loco built in 1959, 60 this year), running alongside newly restored Urie S15 506 (currently their oldest running loco, built in 1920, she is 99 years old). Ride behind their newly repainted Schools Class 30925 "Cheltenham". Enjoy behind the scene tours throughout Ropley workshop and yard and get up close and explore their locomotives under restoration. The Real Ale bar will be available on one of the trains each day and the 'Queen Mary' brake van will be available for rides on the freight train.

Alton Downland Challenge

Anstey Park, Anstey Lane, Alton, GU34 2NB

A multi-terrain race event featuring 10K, 5K and children's races. Both the 10k and 5k races start and finish at Anstey Park and use footpaths including the St Swithun's Way. The routes are not suitable for Wheelchair users and also dogs are not allowed. The minimum age for the 10K is 15 years old and the 5k is 10 years old. All finishers will receive a medal and in the 10k race the first 3 overall and in various age categories will receive a prize. In the 5k race the first adult male and female will receive a prize and the first 3 boys and girls in 2 age categories will also receive prizes. There is also a school trophy and a team consists of 5 boys and 3 girls. Plus a 500m race for 4 to 6 year olds and 1k race for 7 to 9 year olds and both these are free entry on the day.

Wizard Weekend

Watercress Line Alresford Railway Station, SO24 9JG

The ultimate spooky experience for the kids…
Dress up as a scary character for your chance to win a fantastically spooky prize! Whether you're a wondrous wizard, a ghastly ghost or a petrifying pumpkin, come along to the fancy dress competition above the shop in Alresford, at 12pm and 2pm. There are 3 age categories:

  • Under 4's - 'Brand New Wizards'
  • Age 4 - 8 year olds - 'Emerging Wand Talent'
  • Over 8 year olds - 'Potion Masters'

ALL activities are included in your ticket price

  • Unlimited rides on the Wizard Express steam train
  • Walk in Harry Potter's footsteps on the real Kings Cross footbridge from the films, borrow our Hogwarts costumes to dress up in character to take a selfie
  • Explore a Hogwarts Express-style carriage
  • Watch owls and falcons
  • Take a ride on our spooky miniature railway
  • Learn how witches broomsticks are made
  • Get your face painted into something scary (additional cost)
